January 29^th is the fifth Sunday in January. Each month throughout the year that has a 5^th Sunday there is a “special offering” taken to help support a different area of the church budget. On January 29^th the “special offering” will help with the utilities.  Give as generously as you are able.

PRAY – Rev. Webb was invited to preach January 29 at the United Methodist Church in Waverly, Iowa where his father was a pastor.  Lift him up in prayer as he preaches and  for traveling mercies.

TIME TO ORDER DAFFODILS – Already? Oh My!!  Marge Shreve will be outside the Sanctuary doors to take your order and your money.  The final date to order daffodils will be Sunday, February 12^th.  When paying by check remember to make it out to “American Cancer Society” and not the church.  Also, you will be asked if you are purchasing in honor of, in memory of, or for the Joy of the Season.  The daffodils will be on display Sunday, March 18^th and you can take them home that day after the service.  If you need them before that you can pick yours up in Fellowship Hall on Wed., March 14^th.

PRAYER SHAWL Knitters will be meet on on the 2^nd and 4^th Wednesday of each month at 12:30 p.m. (new time) at the Iris Tea Room.  Bring what you are working on or come to get started.  Of course, this is weather permitting.  If you have questions call Billie Sandegren or Roberta Fullerton.

TAIZE WORSHIP – The next Taize Worship will be Thursday, February 2^nd at 7:00 p.m.  If you have never experience this quiet, meditative service you are encouraged to come February 2^nd.  It is a very relaxing, informal, spiritual service.

 For new youth not in a youth group here is the information for you so you can become part of Methodist Youth!

            Reliant Youth – Grades 5^th & 6^th meet the 2^nd & 4^th Sunday evenings from 6:00 – 7:00 p.m. downstairs in the youth room.

            Crave Youth – Grades 7th & 8^th meet every Wednesday from 6:30-8:00 p.m. downstairs in the youth room.

            Amplify Youth – Grades 9^th – 12^th meet every Wednesday from 7:30-9:00 p.m. downstairs in the youth room.

GIVING UPDATES – Starting this year the Finance Committee has decided to give quarterly updates in the bulletin instead of weekly. 

The first Sunday of each month will post the previous month’s offerings.

JANUARY 2012 SERMON SERIES – WHY…do the innocent suffer? WHY…do my prayers go unanswered? WHY…is it sad God’s love prevails?  Have you ever heard hese questions asked? Have you ever asked WHY? January 8,15,22, and 29 will be a sermon series based on the book WHY by Adam Hamilton.  Please pray that God’s Holy Spirit will touch us all as we ask our Creator, WHY?

ATTENTION QUILTERS – We began quilting on Monday, January 9, 2012. We will quilt from 9am to 4pm. every Monday until it is finished. Bring a sack lunch and stay all day or come and stay any length of time you can spare.  Everyone is Welcome!  Any questions? call Belle Cleaveland at 432-4285.

RED ROCK FOOD BANK – Thank you very much for your continued support.  Your giving this past quarter was: donated items were $366.00 and cash donations of $745.00.  We continue to need canned fruit, canned meat, and personal supplies.

 “MESSENGER” – OK, this is it! The February’s “Messenger” will be emailed to 200 families (there will be a URL address for you to click on and it will take you to the web-site where you can click and read). We will mail approximately 285.  That has cut our printing costs and mailing costs in half!!  This will be done on Monday, January 30.  Be sure to check your “SPAM” folder and make any necessary corrections so it doesn’t go there again.  If you want to change how you receive the newsletter call the church office before the third week of February for the March printing.

PLEDGES – This is a good time to start automatic deductions for your church contributions. It’s easy…a one-page form, plus a VOIDED check is all it takes. The forms are on the table outside the Sanctuary.

CARD SALE – I apologize that I missed last Sunday’s card sale. I hurt my right hand Friday and could not move it until Sunday evening. I will have cards January 29.  Thank You, Donna Crosman

VALENTINES DAY – I know this seems early, however, if you want to make plans for your “sweetheart” it’s not too early.  Remember, surprises are always “romantic” at any age.  So, put your thinking cap on and come up with something really special for that special someone in your life!

Three plastic tubs have been placed on the south side for “anytime” donations for Red Rock Food Bank, Stork’s Nest, and the Homeless Shelter.  Instead of just one Sunday a month, which often times is hard to remember, you can bring donations “anytime” and put them in the tubs.  On the designated Sunday they will be brought upstairs for that day then taken to the proper places on Monday.  The tubs will then be put back in fellowship hall to fill again.
