IN HONOR OF MOTHERS

A Child Learns to Trust ~ by Laurie Hays Coffman

My mom is my shepherd; I shall not want. She makes me lie down under cool, downy comforts. She watches me play beside still waters. She restores my soul.

She leads me in paths of respect, responsibility, and goodness, for I am her namesake!

Yea, even though I walk past monsters in the dark, I will not be scared, because my mom is always near me. Her hands and her voice, they comfort me.

Mama sets the table and cheerfully calls me to dinner even in front of big, mean bullies.

She anoints my skinned knees and broken heart with kisses. She smiles and throws me a towel when my cup runneth over.

Surely God’s peace, power, and mercy shall uphold me all the days of my life, for my Mother taught me to dwell in the house of God forever.

SUNDAY, MAY 11 – The Foundation is inviting you to Honor Your Mother this Mother’s Day with a donation to the Foundation. The money given to the Foundation is invested and will grow in support of our church. No donation is too large or too small, and all monies received will be invested into the Foundation where ONLY the interest earned will ever be used, which means…your gifts will live on forever to help support the activities and security of FUMC of Boone.

THANK YOU – We are so grateful for the love and support you gave so freely at the time of my mother’s death. Your cards of sympathy, your kind words and thoughtful gestures are deeply appreciated. God has blessed us in so many ways and we are thankful for the care and concern of our church family.     Blessings, Becky, George & Max Eckstein

UMW NOTICE : Rachel Circle will NOT meet in May. The next meeting will be June 18 at 1:30 p.m. in Melissa O’Brian’s garden.

CHECK IT OUT ! We have six ‘new’ titles from the North Central District Traveling Library. Aging with Grace; A Song to Sing; The Long Good Night; Stories from Below the Poverty Line; Like Dew That Waters the Crass; and 101 Devotions with Children. Ladies: these are all on the reading list for UMW, so if you need a book or two to finish out this year’s program, here are some interesting and thought provoking choices. Don’t let the fact that you aren’t a member of UMW stop you from checking out books from our library!

PEACE WITH JUSTICE SUNDAY ~ May 18, 2008 has been designated Peace With Justice Sunday.  The theme this year is “Witness to God’s hope for a faithful, living world.” Your offering gives the United Methodist Church a voice in advocating for peace and justice at home and around the world. Jesus said, “Blessed are the peacemakers.” May each of us work for peace in our home, in our neighborhood, in our school, in our town and in our world.  Ask God what you can give to support this special program.  There will be a special envelope in the bulletin on May 18 for to participate in Peace With Justice!
